Dan Hill – Sometimes When We Touch

And who am I to judge you on what you say or do?
I’m only just beginning to see the real you..
I’m just another writer still trapped within my truth
A hesitant prize fighter still trapped within my youth..

It’s September already. And well, soon, my age will be a quarter-century old. For sure, “this subject” is becoming more and more appear to the surface on my life. I’ve listened this song for quite a while, mainly because how much it’s related with me, especially for now. The lyrics, melody, & its harmony speak for itself, and really touches me, deeply.

For me, this song it’s not about “romantic-girlie song”. When I’m really listened to it, understand the lyrics, words & meaning behind the song, then I can see why many people actually played this song at their wedding.

For me, this song is about a man that struggling with his feelings for a woman.Β  He faced a moral battle between his heart & his mind. He has deep, truthful & hidden love that wants to be shared, felt, & received.

On one hand, he wants to say he loves her but he knows that he’s not yet able to give her “a secure life”, that could hurt her someday. At times, he thinks they can be just friends, while prepare everything to make her “a luckiest woman”, even that romantic feelings flares when they met. He just wants to be responsible for his feelings but still he’s afraid & confused, and yet he wish to be with her forever.

The song meaning is deep, gentle and honest for me. I don’t know, maybe in love & life itself, there’s so many things that have to not go right, before we get it right.

“Sometimes When We Touch”

You ask me if I love you
And I choke on my reply
I’d rather hurt you honestly
Than mislead you with a lie

And who am I to judge you
On what you say or do?
I’m only just beginning to see the real you

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty’s too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide

I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

Romance and all its strategy
Leaves me battling with my pride
But through the insecurity
Some tenderness survives

I’m just another writer
Still trapped within my truth
A hesitant prize fighter
Still trapped within my youth

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty’s too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

At times I’d like to break you
And drive you to your knees
At times I’d like to break through
And hold you endlessly

At times I understand you
And I know how hard you’ve tried
I’ve watched while love commands you
And I’ve watched love pass you by

At times I think we’re drifters
Still searching for a friend
A brother or a sister
But then the passion flares again

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty’s too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides..

It’s Nice and Romantic but Heartbreaking Love Song ..
Because of his heartfelt heart, everybody must be sure that the man should get the “luckiest woman” who makes him “luckiest man” as he wishes..
But, first he must assure himself, is she the woman that will be ?, is she the woman that he wants ?
But, the man is only just beginning to see the real her. Would he be hurt if just she isn’t the same or she has changed ?
Umek, i wish all the best things are happened to you.

Kamek, met ulang tahun yaaa (besok yun ucapin lagi koq)..
Semoga semua harapan & doa kamek terkabul, amin.
Semoga di umur ini dan selanjutnya lebih berkah, amin.
Semoga selalu dalam lindungan Yang Maha Pengasih, Tuhan kita, Allah, amin.
Semoga selalu diberi yang terbaik oleh-Nya, amin…

I’m not really sure how I got here.. πŸ™‚ but I was looking for answers to the song and perhaps would share what I think.. I can explain it per paragraphs but I guess it would be so lengthy… I agree it’s a very sad song between a man fighting for what needs to be done and what he truly feels for the woman he loves. Basically, it’s not that he WON’T say his feelings.. more like HE CAN’T. maybe because the woman sees him only as a “friend” and his fear is that if he says the truth, she may leave or, it could be a love that’s not suppose to happen. This is a song of a struggling inlove man to show his affection to a woman beyond his reach and I don’t think it’s good to be played on weddings.. πŸ™‚

I personally think the woman feels more for the man than he feels for her. She is in love with him, he likes being with her, likes the intimacy, but he knows in his heart he doesn’t really love her. “see the real you” she probably said alot of things in her pain when he told her he didn’t love her, things he’d not seen in her before. He’s confused about his feelings. He doesn’t want to lose her, he likes her, but he knows in his heart he doesn’t really love her. “sometimes when we touch, the honesty’s too much, and I have to close my eyes and hide”. He really likes the intimacy, but knows he doesn’t really love her. That’s how I interpret it.
